| | Release Date: | | 06/20/2007 | | Description: | | Born in the Philippines, Marlene Pena Lim is one of the first international jazz singers who found success and a second home in Japan. Known simply with her first name, Marlene came to Japan when she was just 19 years old. With her singing abilities, it did not take long before she landed a major contract with CBS/Sony, which recorded this first album in 1981.
For the auspicious debut, the producer and people at CBS/Sony decided to focus on contemporary pops materials instead of standard jazz numbers. They also backed her up with a large, fusion-style band (all top-notch musicians) augmented with strings and a horn section. Some arrangements and the use of synthesizers may sound dated to modern ears, but Marlene rose to the challenge and shone brightly against this gorgeous background. This first album catapulted her to stardom virtually overnight.
Recorded in October 1981 in Tokyo, Japan. Part of Sony Music Japan's "Showa Jazz Legend" reissue series. 2007 DSD mastering. This hybrid SACD can be played by any regular CD player as well as an SACD player. Special limited "paper sleeve" or "mini-LP" edition. | | Eastwind Import Price: | |
