| Artist/Band: | | Chet Baker | | Name: | | Chet Baker & NDR Big Band - The Legacy, Vol. 1 [SHM-CD] | | Cat No.: | | GQCP-59034 | | Performed by: | | Chet Baker (trumpet,vocal) NDR Big Band
| | Release Date: | | 08/20/2008 | | Description: | | Beginning in 1995, Enja Records of Germany released a series of Chet Baker's previously unreleased materials and called it "The Legacy" series. The four hard-to-find albums are now reissued by Universal Japan on a brand-new SHM-CD format that offers superior sound and is compatible with all regular CD players.
First in the series is Chet Baker & NDR Big Band. The album was recorded in November 1987, merely six months before Baker's tragic and mysterious death. In this gorgeous live recording, Baker blissfully plays his favorite ballads and standards against the lush background provided by the North German Radio Big Band which included American expats Walter Norris on piano and Herb Geller on alto sax as well as European star players like Alex Riel on drums.
The arrangements are designed to provide a maximum amount of space for Baker's lyrical trumpet, and he takes full advantage of it. Baker's in top form here, and his unique, dark tone and the natural flow of his phrasing are very attractive. For the first time, we can listen to this recording with a clearer, more analog-like sound of SHM-CD. It also includes the original English liner notes. A must-own recording for fans of Chet Baker!
Recorded live on November 14, 1987 at Audiomax, Hamburg, Germany. Originally released by Enja Records in 1995. This Japanese, limited SHM-CD edition was released by Universal Japan on August 20, 2008. | | Eastwind Import Price: | |
