| Artist/Band: | | Chet Baker | | Name: | | Oh You Crazy Moon - The Legacy, Vol. 4 [SHM-CD] | | Cat No.: | | GQCP-59037 | | Performed by: | | Chet Baker (trumpet,vocal) Phil Markowitz (piano) Scott Lee (bass) Jeff Brillinger (drums)
| | Release Date: | | 08/20/2008 | | Description: | | Beginning in 1995, Enja Records of Germany released a series of Chet Baker's previously unreleased materials and called it "The Legacy" series. The four hard-to-find albums are now reissued by Universal Japan on a brand-new SHM-CD format that offers superior sound and is compatible with all regular CD players.
Fourth and last in the series is Oh You Crazy Moon, a superb recording of a radio show for the SDR in Stuttgart from 1978. Baker led a young American trio consisting of Phil Markowitz on piano, Scott Lee on bass and Jeff Brillinger on drums. Markowitz shines especially, showing his exquisite skills as a sensitive sideman and first class soloist.
Perhaps inspired by the brilliant pianist, Baker sang and played at a very high level that day. Many of his fans consider this recording to be one of his best in the last ten years of his career. For the first time, we can listen to these recordings with a clearer, more analog-like sound of SHM-CD. The CD also includes the original English liner notes. A must-own recording for fans of Chet Baker!
Recorded on December 9, 1978 at Kulturzentrum Ludwigsburg, Germany. Originally released by Enja Records in 2003. This Japanese, limited SHM-CD edition was released by Universal Japan on August 20, 2008. | | Eastwind Import Price: | |
