Description:Swing Journal Gold Disc!

Cheryl Bentyne, known as an important member of the super vocal group Manhattan Transfer, has had a successful solo career as well, and has released several well-received solo CDs from King Records of Japan. Following the hugely successful Songs Of Our Time -- winner of the Swing Journal 2008 Jazz Disc Vocal Award, now comes her sixth solo album, The Cole Porter Songbook.

Supported by her husband Corey Allen -- who produced, arranged all but one tune and played piano, keyboards and banjo -- and a host of great musicians based in Los Angeles, Bentyne displays her vocal talent, sophistication and urbane playfulness in this great collection of classic Porter songs.

Interesting twists include a scat introduction to "You'd Be So Nice To Come Home To" taken from J.S. Bach's Partita No. 2 and her rendition of the entire song of "Begin The Beguine" with only Dave Tull accompanying her on drums. Veteran tenor saxophonist James Moody makes impressive guest appearances on "Ev'rytime We Say Goodbye" and "What Is This Thing Called Love." Another winner, and another well-deserved Swing Journal Gold Disc!

Produced by Corey Allen. Recorded February 15-17, 2009 at B2 Studios, Valley Village, CA.
