Description:World Premier Release!

Beverly Kenney is not well-known among general jazz fans but has a strong following among ardent Japanese jazz vocal enthusiasts. Kenney left only six official albums before she died by her own hand at age 28 in 1960. But SSJ Records of Japan has been releasing newly discovered materials as Snuggled on Your Shoulder (XQAM-1003) and Lonely And Blue (XQAM-1022).

This time, the same people released another CD with even more previously unreleased materials. They are sourced from a TV broadcast (Tracks 1-2: The Steve Allen Show in 1958 with Skitch Henderson and His Orchestra), a radio broadcast (Tracks 3-6: Jazz Party with Art Ford in 1958, with Roland Hanna, Vinnie Burke and Specs Powell), and a dance lesson record (Tracks 7-10, ca 1954). The disc contains two bonus tracks -- Kenney's unrecorded composition "I Don't Beleive In Love" performed by Diane Hubka in 2008, and an interview by Art Ford.

Bill Reed writes in his liner notes, "Nearly fifty years after her tragic 1960 death, Beverly Kenney -- one of the first young jazz singers to have been exclusively influenced by bop instrumentalists -- is even more widely known than she was during her all-too-brief professional career. A critics' darling, she flashed on the jazz horizon in the mid-1950s and then, almost as quickly, she was gone...but definitely not forgotten."

A note on sound quality: Due to the historical nature of the original recording, the sound quality of this CD is uneven and flawed at times with noise and distortion, except for the newly recorded Track 11.

Recorded circa 1954, 1958 and 2008 (Track 11). Produced for this release by Bill Reed. HQCD uses higher-quality materials for better sound, and is compatible with all regular CD players.
