Limited-Edition Reissue Series!

To celebrate its 25th anniversay, Japan's Videoarts Music label re-released its hit jazz CDs as an attractively priced, limited edition "Hear The Music" series.

Manhattan Jazz Orchestra was created by pianist/arranger David Matthews and an accomplished Japanese producer Shigeyuki Kawashima (both GRAMMY winners) in 1989. It is one of the premier and most prolific big bands in the US, having released more than 13 CDs over the years.

Some Skunk Funk, recorded in 2002, commemorated the 40th year of Matthews' career in music. It is a collection of songs and tunes made famous by artists with whom Matthews worked as a producer: The variied roster includes The Brecker Brothers, Simon and Garfunkel, James Brown, Frank Sinatra and Billy Joel, indicating the versatility of the legenday producer/arranger. Matthews boldly and vividly re-imagines the well-known melodies and turn them into dynamic and swinging big band tunes. The all-star big band, including star players Lew Soloff, Jim Pugh, Chris Hunter and Andy Snitzer, plays Matthews' intricate scores with technical perfection and provide inspired solos. Recommended for fans of the contemporary big band sound!

Produced by Shigeyuki Kawashima and David Matthews. Recorded February 2002, New York.
