Artist/Band: | | Kengo Nakamura | Name: | | Songs In My Life Time | Cat No.: | | FNCJ-5555 | Performed by: | | Kengo Nakamura (bass) Marcus Printup (trumpet) Mark Gross (alto sax) Stacy Dillard (soprano sax, tenor sax) Richard Johnson (piano) Willie Jones III (drums)
| Release Date: | | 10/03/2012 | Description: | | One of my favorite Japanese bass players, Kengo Nakamura's latest, and first leader album in four years features a very personal song list. It includes a Japanse song he heard as a child ("Desert Moonlight"), songs associated with the jazz giants who influenced him and gave him inspiration, such as Charlie Mingus, Duke Ellington and Thelonious Monk, and a few originals. In addition to arranging two of them himself, he enlisted two other arrangers: fellow Japanese Junko Moriya, and the current leader of the Duke Ellington Orchestra, Tommy James.
Appearing in several different combinations depending on the song, the band features top-notch New York musicians of his generation, including Marcus Printup on trumpet, Mark Gross on alto and Stacy Dillard on tenor and soprano.
Songs/arrangements are great and the performances are very inspired! This is one of the best straight-ahead jazz CDs released in 2012! Highly recommended!
Produced by Jeff Jones ("The Jedi Master") and Kengo Nakamura. Recorded at Hirsch Studios, New York, on June 30 and July 1, 2012. | Eastwind Import Price: | |
