Description:After successfully leading the Toshiko Akiyoshi - Lew Tabackin Big Band in Los Angeles from 1973 to 1982, Akiyoshi and Tabackin moved to New York and formed a new band called "Toshiko Akiyoshi Jazz Orchestra Featuring Lew Tabackin." The new orchestra continued its activities until 2003 when it was finally disbanded.

The concept of the band remained the same. The band performed Akiyoshi's compositions and arrangements exclusively, which featured air-tight ensemble lines, varied colors, bebop traditions, and brilliant solos by star players.

Ten Gallon Shuffle was the new band's debut LP, recorded about a year after it was formed during its tour on the West Coast. The new band is just as tight as its predecessor, and perhaps even more dynamic. The forward-moving drive of their swing is something to behold.

Recorded May 1984 at Mad Hatter Studio in Los Angeles. This reissue CD (world premier release on CD; limited paper sleeve edition) was released in 2006.
