Description:The latest offering from the Eastwind Import exclusive BluePort Jazz label is a fabulous collection of new compositions by San Diego-based pianist, vibraphonist and composer, Anthony Smith. Developed for a play called Jazz Queens Cast Blue Shadows that told the stories of jazz and blues legends Billie Holiday and Dinah Washington.

Upon request by the director, Smith composed an overture and more instrumental music for underscoring and scene transitions, stylistically consistent with the period in which the Holiday/Washington saga unfold: The 1940s and '50s. Encouraged by the success of the theatrical run, Smith decided to record this unique body of work with young and highly competent jazz musicians in San Diego.

Recorded with just four microphones fed directly to a digital recorder via Silversmith cables, this recording (made in a theater without an audience) is the best-sounding offering from BluePort which is known for its purist, audiophile aspirations. Recorded without a mixing board, any kind of post signal processing or even mastering, it is as pure as it can get. The sound quality of the CD is fabulous: It's open, immediate, lively and organic. As a bonus, for those who is into PC-based audio, the package includes a DVD-ROM disc that contains 24 bit/96 kHz WAV files. (The DVD-ROM disc is NOT compatible with any DVD player or DVD-Audio player. You need a computer and a compatible software to play its contents.)

Recommended to audiophiles and jazz fans!

Released 2010.
