Description:Vibraphonist/marimba player Bill Ware's roots are in straight ahead jazz, but his musical interests are wide-ranged, as evidenced by his associations with Steely Dan, the Groove Collective (funk jazz) and the Rising Sun Band (contemporary jazz).

In this inaugural release from the Cheetah label--established by Japanese bassist/producer and long-time New York resident Teruo Nakamura--Ware revisits hip tunes recorded for great jazz labels like Blue Note and Prestige in the 1960s and 1970s: Hank Mobley's "A Baptist Beat" and "Reunion," Sam Jones' "Del Sasser and John Lewis' "Django." Three snippets of free improvisations serve as short interludes.

Top drummer Lenny White and other musicians support and inspire Ware on this attractive and eclectic program, with the leader playing at a consistently high level of intensity and creativity.

Recorded August 20-30, 2009 in New York.
