Artist/Band: | | NY4 | Name: | | Sweet and Lovely | Cat No.: | | CMSB-28006 | Performed by: | | John Bunch (piano) Bucky Pizzarelli (guitar) Jay Leonhart (bass) Warren Vache (cornet)
| Release Date: | | 03/20/2006 | Description: | | This is a wonderful album by veteral musicians that embodies the truth and the essence of swing. John Bunch (b. 1921), Bucky Pizzarelli (b. 1926) and Jay Leonhart (b. 1940) have been playing together as a trio called "New York Swing." For this project, they added a young cornet player Warren Vache (he was ONLY 55 years old at the time of recording) and decided to call themselves "NY4."
The leader, John Bunch, is one of the few surviving musicians of a great generation that include Hank Jones, Marian McPartland, George Shearing and Oscar Peterson. His elegant swing style descends directly from Teddy Wilson, and is adored by younger musicians such as Scott Hamilton and Harry Allen.
They have made wonderful music for many decades, and their collective experience is priceless. Through this lovely album, they are telling us that jazz is not about how fast or how loud you play, or how many notes you can cram into a passage. It is all about swing, and the power of quiet elegance. Beautiful music, beatifully recorded. Oh, by the way, this combo does not have a drummer, but you may never notice it until you've listened to the entire album!
Recorded in November 2005 at Nola Recording Studios, NYC, by Jim Czak. | Eastwind Import Price: | |
