A stunning discovery of unreleased material!
Dutch singer Ann Burton (1933-1989) was a national star in her homeland and remains very popular in Japan. This very special CD is a collection of never-before-released materials, recorded between 1970 and 1984 for radio broadcasts. Tapes were discovered in the archives of Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision, and meticulously digitized for this historic release.
This collection consists of three separate sessions. The master pianist Louis van Dijk accompanies her on all tracks, while the two are augmented by a bassist and a drummer on three tracks. Five were recorded in studio while Tracks 5 through 12 were recorded live in concert at The Concertgebouw.
Ann Burton charms us with her smokey voice and relaxed, almost conversational approach. The delivery is honest and without pretention. The beautiful, imaginative and lyrical accompaniment by Louis van Dijk elevates the performances to a sublime level.
The natural recording is also very agreeable in terms of sound quality. Recommended to jazz vocal fans and a must-have item for fans of Ann Burton!
Recorded February 21, 1970 (#3-4), June 16, 1976 (#1,2,13) and April 8, 1984 (#5-12). | Eastwind Import Price: | |
