Description:Swing Journal Gold Disc!

Amanda Brecker is a talented singer/songwriter and daughter of trumpeter Randy Brecker and pianist/singer Eliane Elias. Her debut CD Here I Am became an instant hit in Japan. Now comes a highly anticipated sophomore release Brazillian Passion, which was recorded almost exactly a year later. Her first two CDs have both earned the coveted status of Swing Journal Gold Disc, which is indeed a rare feat!

While Amanda's debut album was a pop album with jazz sensibilities, this second album focuses on her Brazillian influence. After all, her mother is a Carioca, and the first language she learned as a toddler was Portuguese! In this cosmopolitan album, she sings five songs in Portuguese, seven in English (including four written by herself) and even one in French ("Autumn Leaves").

Co-producer and arranger David Matthews and star saxophonist Andy Snitzer return to provide musical support. The presence of Ivan Lins as guest vocalist on two songs -- both written by Lins -- is a big plus and must have been a huge honor for the young Amanda. The band, which includes Oscar Castro Neves on guitar and two Brazillian percussionists, provides authentic Brazillian rhythm feel and flavor. Amanda's clear and sunny voice is attractive throughout.

This is, indeed, a very impressive second album from a young artist. Well done!

Produced by Shigeyuki Kawashima and David Matthews. All songs arranged by David Matthews. Recorded in New York on March 27-31, 2009.
