Description:Manhattan Jazz Orchestra was created by pianist/arranger David Matthews and an accomplished Japanese producer Shigeyuki Kawashima (both GRAMMY winners) in 1989. Matthews and the MJO celebrates their 25th anniversary by returning to its original label, King Records.

MJO follows their massively successful Sing Sing Sing 2010 - Tribute To Benny Goodman and Disney tribute Plays Disney with a surprising collection of well-known classical melodies, transformed into swinging big band jazz by the magical pen of Matthews.

One would naturally wonder how can "Also Sprach Zarathustra" and "Bolero" be turned into jazz, but Matthews pulls it off brilliantly. His arrangements are clever, creative and daring. Fusing intricate melodic lines with driving rhythmic figures and kinetic energy, he manages to make most of the songs swing. And the execution of his score by the top-notch New York musicians is impeccable and vibrant. Especially notable are brilliant solos by trumpeter Michael Rodriguez and sax players Chris Hunter and Bob Malack.

Recommended to fans of big band (and classical) music!
