Artist/Band: | | Simone | Name: | | Taking a Chance on Love | Cat No.: | | VHCD-78042 | Performed by: | | Simone Kopmajer (vocal) John di Martino (piano) George Mraz (bass) Tim Horner (drums) Houston Person (tenor sax) Dick Oatts (alto flute, alto sax, soprano sax)
| Release Date: | | 04/18/2007 | Description: | | An Austrian singer who goes by her first name only, Simone was born in 1981 in a musical family. She started classical piano when she was 8 and began singing professionally at 15. The present album is her third for Venus Records.
In this New York recording, Simone was supported by a superb piano trio. John Di Martino is a wonderful pianist from Philadelphia who plays both straight ahead and latin jazz. Together with drummer Tim Horner, he has recorded several trio albums for the Venus label. George Mraz lends his hands in the bass chair, and special guests Houston Person (tenor sax) and Dick Oatts (flute and soprano sax) add texture and color to the proceedings.
Simone has a clear, charming voice, and good fundamental skills that support her straight forward and assured delivery. Especially in slow ballads, her expressiveness and power to draw the listener in are impressive. This beatifully recorded CD will delight both jazz vocal fans and audiophiles!
Recorded at The Studio in November 2006 by Katherine Miller. Mixed and mastered by Venus 24-bit Hyper Magnum Sound. Mini-LP, paper sleeve edition. | Eastwind Import Price: | |
