Description:Tiger Okoshi is a versatile trumpeter who has played both fusion and fairly straight-ahead jazz. Born in Japan and a resident of the U.S. since 1972, Okoshi first gained attention playing with Gary Burton; he also had a stint with George Russell's Living Time Orchestra in the early '90s and recorded with Bob Moses.

Color of Soil is his striking third release from JVC. The music is strong, daring and unique. The sound of the band is made more colorful by substitution of a drummer with the versatile percussionist Mino Cinelu and the addition of cellist Hank Roberts.

Okoshi's experience of the massive earthquake in Kobe in 1995, when he was visiting his family's home, had a large impact on him. Songs titled "Bootsman's Little House" and "Color of Soil" capture the dual sense of despair and hope that marked those days for Okoshi. Other standouts include "Kagome, Kagome," a traditional Japanese folk song.

Legendary engineer Jim Anderson captured the session live onto two-track, analog tape, and the analog master was perfectly transferred to digital by JVC's proprietary XRCD2 technology. Great care was taken even at the pressing of the CD, and the result is stunning, vivid and dynamic sounds that are sure to blow you away.

Produced by Akira Taguchi. Recorded live to two-track by Jim Anderson at Clinton Recording Studios, NY, in February, 1998. Mastered at Alan Yoshida at A&M Mastering Studios, Hollywood.
