Artist/Band:Robert Lakatos Trio
Name:You And The Night And The Music
Cat No.:AS-077
Performed by:Robert Lakatos (piano)
Thomas Stabenow (bass)
Klaus Weiss (drums)
Release Date:06/27/2008
Description:Robert Lakatos, jazz pianist from Hungary, is a well-known figure in Japan where Atelier Sawano released two superb CDs -- So In Love in 2005 and award-winning Never Let Me Go in 2007. Now comes his third release, You And The Night And The Music.

Like the previous two CDs, it was recorded in Switzerland, and this time, Lakatos is paired with the first-call rhythm section from Germany: Thomas Stabenow on bass and Klaus Weiss on drums. His incisive technique, effective use of dynamics, lyrical and warm sensibilities are all present in this wonderful trio album, as well as his ability to swing hard.

From the mid-tempo opener "I Should Care" to the closing title track, there is not a single weak tune here. The varied program includes a beautiful rendition of Sting's "Fragile," a lovely jazz waltz composed by Kenny Dorham ("Scandia Skies"), fast and powerful "Moose The Mooche" and very attractive original compositions by Lakatos ("Sepia" and "Gloaming").

Like his previous two CDs which were recorded at the same studio, the sound quality of this CD is superb. Audiophiles will appreciate the details, the warm tone and presence of the piano and the deep, articulate sound of the bass. Highly recommended!

Produced by Peter B????rli and Klauss Weiss. Recorded at Radio DRS Studio 2, Z????rich on July 7 and 10, 2007.
