Mastered from original analogue tapes!

Originally released in 1956 by Jazz:West Records based in Los Angeles, Tenorman is a fantastic West Coast hard bop album featuring a 20 year old tenor saxophonist James Clay. The leader was the drummer Lawrence Marable (who would later change his first name to Larence) but you wouldn't know it from the jacket; he really wanted to introduce the "kid from Dallas" to the world.

This album sounds great, from Clay's impressive performance to the crisp and dynamic drumming of Marable. Another important point is the presence of Sonny Clark, who was known as a West Coast jazzman at the time and always provided great support and imaginative solos.

Pressed in the U.S. with vintage pressing machines in an attempt to replicate the sound of the 1950s, the sound of this Japanese reissue vinyl is fantasitic - very natural and authentic. Highly recommended for vinyl aficionados, collectors and fans of West Coast jazz!

Recorded in August 1956 at Capitol Recording Studios in Hollywood. Engineered by John Kraus. Mono. Originally released as JWLP8 by Jazz:West Records in 1956. This limited 200-gram vinyl reissue released by EMI Music Japan in 2013.
