Artist/Band:Thomas Enhco
Name:Jack and John
Cat No.:EECD-8802
Performed by:Thomas Enhco (piano)
John Patitucci (bass)
Jack DeJohnette (drums)
Release Date:07/03/2013
Description:Thomas Enhco (b. 1988) began playing the violin at age 3, piano at 6, and studied classical music and jazz at the same time. He joined the band led by his stepfather and jazz violinist Didier Lockwood at age 9, and began playing at prestegious venues and jazz festivals. He has performed with Michael Brecker, Wynton Marsalis and Peter Erskine, among others.

The title of the young French pianist's third album refers to Jack DeJohnette and John Patitucci, with whom he recorded this album. Enhco, who was 23 years old at the time of recording, had idolized the two legendary musicians, and was thrilled by an opportunity to record with them at Avatar Studios in New York City.

The program opens with Enhco's lively and boppish original "Gaston," inspired by a cluster of notes that Gaston, his dog, accidentally played when he jumped onto the piano. From the opening of this number, DeJohnette and Patitucci shows everyone why they are among the best drummers and bassists in the world today.

The beautiful touch and lyricism of Enhco's piano shine on slower numbers and ballads, including "I'm Old Fashioned" and "A Time For Love." "Ebony" is an original by DeJohnette who had recorded it earlier with Cedar Walton. The title track is another original by Enhco and another highlight of the CD. DeJohnette's versatile and creative drumming is particularly impressive. With the quality of performance and interplay, it is hard to believe that the entire album was recorded in just six hours!

The sound quality of this CD is wonderful, too! The pure DSD-recording, mixing and mastering and the specail CD formulation, employing green label coating and silver spattering (using a special silver alloy instead of aluminum for the reflective layer) result in clean and prestine piano tones, a wider dynamic range and three-dimensional soundstage. Very highly recommended!

Produced by Yasohachi "88" Itoh. Recorded at Avatar Studios, New York City, on January 29, 2012.
