|Description:||Eastwind Import has been a big fan of Swedish jazz pianist Jan Lundgren from the very beginning. A testament to his international renown, Lundgren's recorded music had been released in the past by three independent labels -- Sittel of Sweden (1997-2003), Fresh Sound Records of Spain (produced in the U.S. by Dick Bank) and Marshmallow of Japan. Now, long out of print, his earlier five albums originally released by Sittel have been re-released in Japan by the Spice of Life label. This is a cause for celebration for fans of Jan Lundgren, especially for the completists among us.|
The fifth in the reissue series is his last CD released by Sittel. Always drawn to beautiful melodies, Lundgren reconfirmed his roots in the native music culture of Sweden, a country with a rich and vivacious tradition of song. Lilting dances, love songs, odes to Nature: the strength of evocation in these themes, the sheer musicality of Lundgren and his two partners, are enough to make us travel from landscape to landscape.
Reminiscent of Lundgren's earliest and surprising smash hit Swedish Standards, this album reminds us the supreme importance of beautiful melodies and the transcendent and unifying power of music. Recommended!
Recorded March 19-21, 2003 at Studio La Buissonne, France.
