Description:Junko Moriya is a Japanese composer and pianist, and the winner of the prestigious 2005 Thelonious Monk International Composers Competition. She has been active both in the US and Japan after obtaining a Master's degree from Manhattan School of Music in New York.

Following her previous sextet album Playground, Moriya returns with her big band, an all-star group of top-notch musicians based in Japan (such as trumpeter Eric Miyashiro and drummer Masahiko Osaka). Her original compositions and arrangements of well-known tunes are firmly rooted in the tradition of big band jazz, but she is not afraid to "stretch out" and infuse her own creativity.

Highlights include the driving opening track, "One For The MPCA," commemmorating her Music Pen Club Award, a boldly arranged "Well You Needn't," poignant "Thousand Cranes" dedicated to her aunt who passed away recently, and a tribute to Sammy Nestico, "This Is For Sammy."

Enthusiastically recommended to fans of big band jazz!
